Practice Composition

"Practice Composition" Mixed Media 9" x 12"

These next 3 pieces are the first pages I have finished, that I started up at Asilomar. Misty Mawn, you are an amazing teacher. I am loving the techniques, and I am trying to paint a face a day, just like you said to. Practice, practice, practice. All of the titles and text on these pieces, have come from an antique textbook from 1883 entitled "New Language Lessons: An Elementary Grammar and Composition". I found this at vendor night at Asilomar, from Boulder Creek Antiques.

Asilomar 2008

A deer that greeted me, the boardwalk and the sunset at Asilomar Beach

I got back into town on Friday from a week up north in Pacific Grove, CA. at Art and Soul. what an amazing trip it was. The grounds reminded me of summer camp, but the beach was right there too. It was fabulous. We had three really good beach weather days, and a few that were pretty cold. But the sun was always shining. I took a three day class with Misty Mawn titled "The Journey Continues" and it was so cool. She is the most amazing artist with some of the coolest techniques I have seen. I really enjoyed it and wished it could have been three more days. I will post pics of the project I did, but first here are some of the grounds and the beach.

"Doubts"

This is another of the "Collaged Affirmations" from Kelly Rae Roberts' article in the latest Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine. I just really like how she lays these out, so simple!!! The text reads: "Do you have doubts? I do!" I seem to be questioning some things right now, and I am also getting ready to go to Asilomar to "Art and Soul" next weekend. I am driving up north, by myself, and going to be taking classes for a few days. While I am very excited, I have also never done anything like this alone, so kinda scary too! I am taking a 3 day journal class, and I am anxious to get started. I have been gathering supplies since Christmas, and I think I am ready!! Whoo hoo, Pebble Beach, here I come!! (as always, click on the picture for a closer look)
